I’m in Phoenix and I think the temp when I ride home from work this afternoon will be somewhere in the region of 109 degrees. I’m a firm believer in wearing protection but my Aerostitch Darien jacket shell is way too hot even with all of the vents opened. Interested to know what y’all are wearing out there in stupid hot weather like this.

Have you tried "Under Armour?" Have you tried wearing non-black (dark)colors?

It wicks the sweat away from your body into the shirt, and then as air passes thru your jacket (or you unzip the top of your jacket slightly) it gives you a "cooling" effect. On really hot days (without under armour) I just usually zip down a little bit and try to stay moving. :stripper:

I also read about a water filled vest that you can wear somewhere before.

Keep in mind that none of that will make you feel like you are relaxing in the pool, but it's "better than a stick in the eye!"

Hi. In North Carolina it rarely gets above 95 or so, but our humidity is much worse. I have found I can stay fairly comfortable by wetting my Joe Rocket {oddly enough} "Phoenix" jacket. It is an armored mesh. It will stay wet for about an hour, and feels kinda like air conditioning when I am moving! I also wet the inside of my helmet and open up the vents it.

I have not tried this, but I read about it a few years back AFTER I got back from a 3 day summer trip of really hot and long days.

Open up the jacket shell vents and soak your shirt with water. Apparently it can almost be too cool, even in +100 temperatures. I carry an extra T shirt with me on trips now, just in case I need to try it.

Jeans or mesh riding pants, mesh jacket, dry-fit shirt.
A camel back pack with very cold water or a combo of water and ice.
Keep moving and let the breeze cool you off.

Those dry-fit or cool-fit shirts from Nike or Adidas really help keep the sweat away from your body. Much better than cotton t-shirts.

I forgot to mention socks... Find the kind that also keep the sweat away from your feet.

Mesh jacket (light color); if possible wet the shirt as mentioned previously. No need to soak it, just damp will do. You will be comfortable even at 110. The trick is to keep moving, and avoid traffic and "stop & go" traffic situations.

The advantage with the mesh is there are no vents, and the only spots where the airflow is blocked are the areas covered by the armor.

I'm with Derstuka. I wear Cold Gear Under Armour. In fact mine is long sleeved and black. No need to wet it. With a mesh jacket or unzipped vents, the slightest air movement makes it feel like air conditioning blowing. You would be very surprised. I wear their Warm Gear in the winter too but heated vest is also a necessity. For the sake of $65.00, go buy a shit and try it out. They are probably a lot cheaper down there. And they don't snag and get those loopy things in the threads like Dry Fit does.

I ride daily in Phoenix. I wear a First Gear textile jacket, First Gear pants, A-Stars summer gloves, boots and a FF KBC TK-8 helmet. It isn't that bad, even today.

In the disgusting humid climes of the CPRofNJ, I wear an Icon TiMax mesh with Icon TiMax non mesh pants. I am warm to hot but never uncomfortably so. The ensemble is completed with Sidi Canyon Sympatex boots. The socks I wear make all the difference in the world. Thorlo Combat Boot socks are the only way to go for me. I have Alpinestars Raven gloves which have real leather palm & mesh/tex back. Finally, an Arai RX7 which vents quite adequately.

    KC-10 FE out...

I saw a older guy today with a t-shirt, shorts and tennys riding a big ole cruiser....ya know, I used to ride like that on occasion but that was when I was young, sportin watermelon size kahuna's! Now that I'm older, I just can't imagine myself riding like that any more.
I ride with either a vented or mesh jacket and riding pants / or sometimes jeans.

This may not be a popular reply, but I can justify myself.

I will wear as much protection as I can stand to wear, comfortably.

I regularly ride in 90 plus heat in a T-shirt and jeans, rarely in cutoffs (that are really below the knees anyway)

When I lower my personal protection I lower my agressive style of riding.

So instead of riding to the edge of my envelope, I take it down a few notches.

Everytime you swing your leg over that seat, may be the last time, I am very aware of that. But I ride for fun, and it's always a risk, It's a risk we all take everytime we get on our bikes, and it's a level of risk that increases with each layer of protection I leave behind, I am willing to accept that.

So before any of you scorn me for not wearing all my gear all the time. If safety is truly number one, then drive a big truck. People die all the time wearing all their gear.

And by the way, I wouldn't talk any of you outta wearing all your stuff, I'm talking for me, cuz the OP asked

AXO race leather... not to be showy, but my daily commute is half two-lane twisties that are pretty lethal

Patagonia's Capilene under layers (like the cool max and others).

I change into jeans and stuff at work.

I roast if the bike stops moving. If it wasn't for lane splitting, I'd probably be a molten puddle.

    That was hilarious!

Back on the subject, here in Salt Lake City it just peaks over 100 and my old Olympia mesh jacket and new Feildsheer Titanium Air 2 pants do a great job. I picked up the pants on close out for $85 and they are awesome. They are strictly summer pants due to not having a liner but they work great at keeping you cool and protected.
