    A love affair...

There was this day not long ago in December 2007 when i walked into a dealership looking for a brand new Kawasaki Z1000. After being disappointed that they were out of stock i turned to walk out when i saw this silver gleam out of the corner of my eye. There, way back in the corner of the shop hidden by a cruiser and a BMW was an angular front of a bike; it seemed to have a glow all around it. I slowly made my way through the sea of used metal and plastic to see a dusty tank of a Honda sitting lonely in a corner trying not to call too much attention to itself. I looked around the bike as best i could as it was crammed into corner like a discarded tissue. As my eyes scanned over the seat I saw the letters "I" then a "N" and a "T" "ERCEP" holy crap "TER!" All at once my love affair with the VFR came rushing back into mind. It was 10 years ago that I fell in love with a pearl white VFR the owner just didn't want to part with and here I was staring at its modern cousin. The salesperson saw me staring at the bike and knew he had a sale. After 1 1/2 hours of moving bikes and rolling the VFR into the light of day; the haggling over prices and options, the keys to a silver 2005 VFR800 were dropped into my hands and the love affair began again. It only took another hour to drive the car home and for the wife to bring me back to the dealer just as the kid finished washing the last specks of dust from that once dusty tank. The engine started with a low growl and warmed up to me almost instantly. My wife understood as she walked back to the car knowing she had lost me for the next few hours. The air was electric as I threw my leg over the seat and settled on the bike. A sweep of the side stand a click of the transmission and a blip of the throttle and the bike and I were one.

    And the love affair continues...

    That is so dang funny!!!!

I had been very happy to be in this VFR club and on this forum until this apparently latest bout of Gen Wars. After reading through some of the nastiness, I had come to the conclusion that I was going to have to own one of every Gen just so that I could be on all sides and not have to decide. But I've narrowed it down to just a few generations now, so as not to upset the wife too much. Thanks guys for almost getting me in some serious dooty.

And surfer that was a poetic piece. Thanks!

OK, I admit that I got my skivvies in a wad at some of the members on this board. I felt that some members pretended that their opinions were Gospel. I got pissed off at these guys and stormed off the internet!

Then a couple of wise members (Carmine and Stuka) reminded me that this site has a lot to offer everyone and that this site is as good as we make it. Basically, in a very gentle way, they said "Grow up!" So I am sticking around with my 1984 VF750F Interceptor and my 2004 VFR Interceptor. That doesn't mean that I love ALL you guys. I don't. But it does mean that I won't post anything that increases the divisions here. More light, less heat - that's the ticket!

I bought VFRWorld merchandise... I wear the shirt proudly, even when I'm on the RC (like I was today).

A coworker has a 4th gen VFR and it's fun to see his 4th gen and my 6th gen there in the parking deck. You can tell they are related!

I appreciate the input from many of you and think this is a great community, following a great bike (regardless of model year).

Is that enough Love, or do we need more? :)

As a rider in the ah, "early autumn" of his riding days my affair with the VFR started slowly about 2 years ago and wasn't consumated until March 29 of this year when I finally picked her up from the dealer and rode her home. I also dropped her within the first 60 klicks but that's a story for another time.

After 8900 klicks it's been bliss every ride!

Stucka has a point. It doesn't matter what gen VFR we ride. We have the love ov VFR's in common. I have ridden my 3rd gen (when I had it) with 4th, 5th, and 6th gens. I was treated not as someone whose bike wasn't up to par, but as an equal and a fellow VFR owner/rider. I have ridden with the sport bike crowd and my bike was drooled on because of the SSSA. I still love VFR's, but I must say that since I weigh no more than Casey Stoner, the bike was a bit on the heavy side for me. I still love the Interceptor (whether it says it on the bike or not, it IS an Interceptor), have since their intro in 1983 and always will. VFR's ROCK!!!!!!

I suspect that if some of the "discussions" were in person bellying up to a barstool and your favorite brew it would come out that most of this is in friendly fun. I think that sometimes that because words come down hard in print, it takes an unintended sharper edge than you mean, and oops, well now the gas on the flames go on.

Oh yes, dis is vhat I vant to do...love all riders on motorcycles, regardless of vhat they ride and vhat religion they follow. Compassion, love and understanding. Dis is the key to happiness and enlightenment. DerStuka has taught us all vell. Even from my astral plane I can see his aura is light yellow with peace. Good Karma!

(Ok, are we done with this? Can't we debate oil or tires or something?)
