What can I do? Am I screwed?
    What about a Dynatek 2000?

Located in WA. It's actually not my bike, I've got a 98 gsxr1100 but I've road his bike alot and I know his bike alot better then he does. I'm the older brother and hence the designated mechanic, tuner, fix it guy and such. lol

Unfortunatly, it's not my bike though. :(

But since I know more about bikes then he does I get the privilage of fixing it. :)

But yea, thx for the welcome. Glad to be here and have a brother that has a VFR! But I actually like my bike more. lol no offense. :)

When I wreck my Gen. Six, I bought the replacement forks from Steve's Cycle Salvage out of Tifton, GA. They are the largest anywhere with a 110,000 sq ft. warehouse holding 1,000,000 parts (ugh, I sound like a promoter. :) ). The had the best price around for the forks. I imagine that they would have what you need.

Come to think of it, a few months ago I went to Steele's Cycle Salvage here in Denver and there was an '85 VF750 sitting there near complete. It was only missing the tank, headlights and seat; still had carbs, which suprised me. I even thought about getting it since it probably wouldn't be much more, if any, than $300. Want me to see if I can get the bike or at least the part that you need, providing that it is still there?

those coils are the same as Honda Magna and 1 or 2 others.

use your ohmmeter to locate which coil is bad.

sometimes the coils test fine when engine is cold but fail with heat.

Does anyone know if the Magna and/or Sabre or any other for that matter, had a Camshaft Pulse Gen as well?

All 3 test bad (open) so I need a Camshaft Pulse Gen as well.
And was under the impression that they (the 3 gens) are sold together as one unit though strange thing is, on the schematics online it doesn't show a 3rd one. :/

BikeBandit doesn't even list the 750F. They list the 700F and 700F2. I've got a manual for the bike and it shows that only the 1986 700, and 86-89 750 had the Camshaft Pulse Gen.

it makes NO logical sense that both coils under the clutch cover would have open circuits at the same time; however it does make sense (and i've seen it on VFRs before) that the lead wires to coils can get rubbed on by rotating parts inside cover and can get gradually worn through, essentially sawed in half. If that's the case you can just splice the wires back together carefully and make certain that wires are properly secured inside retaining clips upon reassembly.....

It may not make any sense, but I assure you they are all bad. All 3 of them. It is possible that the wire has gone bad internally (within the shielding) but none are worn through and I put new terminals on them as well.
Reason I believe they are all bad is (Because I tested them of course) but also because the electrical system got quite a voltage spike when the regulator/rectifier failed quite catastrophically. Fried the Spark Unit (Real technical term there. lol) and more then likely is what caused all 3 coils to open.

Anyways, weather or not they are fried isn't what I'm having problems with.
It's locating some new ones that is the tricky part. :/

Good post!! i failed to imagine that high voltage from a bad regulator could fry the pickup coils!
