As far as I'm concerned if your on a bike your in the brotherhood. I'll ride with, talk to, and wave to anybody, with any brand bike. On my 30 mile commute in this morning I passed 31 bikes. Only 5 of those waved and only 2 waved first.

:bs:, more and more riders in LA are avoiding the wave and just nodding after I wave. Most of them look at me all crazy if/when I give them the top hat pat. They don't even get that I'm trying to give them a heads up on the po-po trap. Dumba$$e$ get back in your cage. You only bought a bike in the first place because you have to work just to put gas in your SUV.

Apparently I qualify as a dumba$$. But thanks for the 'heads up"; you learn something new every day. (And for the record, I work to put gas in my boat, not my SUV :tongue2: )

In Jersey, waving to someone could get you shot. Then again, not waving to someone could also get you shot.

I wave to everyone except the Harley guys. They ain't waving back. MAYBE if they are riding solo they will wave; after all, half these Harley guys are white collar executives.

I am in NJ and decided to wave to all. I would say about 80% of riders wave back regardless of bike type (but if I had to say, it would be the Cruisers that most often don't wave back - note that I didn't say HD, for all I know these could be any type of cruiser bikes).

I usually only do it on 2 lane roads... divided highways and such I don't bother with unless they pull up besides me or something like that. If I wave and they don't bother waving back, I don't take it personally and it really doesn't take much of an effort for me to wave.

I wave to everyone, even the guys/gals on the cruiser scooters. I will probably forego the wave to the buy in the Vespa wearing shorts and the brain bucket, but if he waves first, I'll be sure to follow up with a wave back.

HD guys are by far the worst offenders of the "no return wave". Too busy being "tough". They have an image to uphold (that they bought into...)

BMW riders aren't too far behind - you can tell immediately if they aren't going to wave - headlight modulator going off, bright yellow safety vest, the auxilliary fog lights... you know the type... I still haven't decided if it's because they're too stuck up, or if they're just ignorant weekend warrior doctors/lawyers.

Sportbike riders are near or at 100% wave back. That says something.

I generally won't wave first but will wave to everyone that wave at me. Most sport bike riders will wave... cruisers not so much but some still do. Dual sport riders hardly at all. Touring bike riders are 50:50 too.

What works for me is to just toggle the high/low beams on my bike or just extend my left arm out and give the "slow down" hand signal.

Did not know the heads up...but i'd slow down as it was out side the normal wave... i like it.

tap the head for heads uo for deer, popo or other wise.

Problem with head lights is on a bumpy road it can look like your flashing your headlights..i always fall for this...was he flashing or did he hit a bump.

the slow down wave can look like just a wave....

before id did the light flash while looking and the absence of a wave....i like the heads up better.(in alberta everyone waves..even hd.)

Buffalo, NY. I almost always give the low peace wave. Most seem to give some acknowledgment back, though yes it seems typically the large cruiser riders in black are less likely to wave back. However the very first wave I got was from a serious looking couple on a Harley, they gave me the low peace wave. I have been surprised a few times I have passed a series of Goldwings or other touring bikes and no one waves back. Some riders seem unsure of how to wave back. Sport bikes almost always wave back and are usually giving the wave before I do. I have found that if I have the hi beam modulator running I am much less likely to get a wave back.

Them goldwings are tricky, they don't drop there hand to wave...they take ot off the handle and wave...problem is there have is covered by there handle so it is hard to see...
the thing i hate is the half wave where they just raise there fingers but kep there hand on the bar...i shouldn't need a microscope to see your wave.

For me it's a situational thing, having nothing to do with make or model. On the highways, in moderate to light traffic, with acceptable wind/bike speed, I'll usually be the first to wave. Heavy traffic, high winds, around curves? If it's not safe or prudent, something which can (although I've personally never seen it) net you a ticket here in MT, a recognizable nod of the head is all I will allow. I also realize that there may be times, such as slowing for a stop light, for example, where the opportunity to wave is simply gone to fast to do anything, and do not attribute that to arrogance on either my or the other rider's part.

I wave to anything two-wheeled, provided that traffic is light enough. I occasionally miss returning a wave because I was checking my mirrors or paying attention to a vehicle doing something suspicious. For warning about radar LEOs, it is always a palm-down up and down motion, quick on the up and slow on the down.

    I'll answer again...
I wave at everyone, especially the HD because I know it pisses them off.
Heck, I even wave at scooters!

    Here's my dilemma:
I pretty much wave at everybody. But after a bunch of non-waves from HD riders, I'll get pissed-off and stop waving to them. Inevitably, the next one I meet waves at me and I don't have a chance to wave back. Then I feel guilty, cuz I just turned into one of the a**holes who don't wave. So i start waving at everybody again and the whole viscious cycle continues. Damn!!!
