I hit indicated 247 km/h on my VTR was surprised by my riding buddy swooping past me at about 220 saw red and chased, passed and kept it jammed wide open to see what number we might come up with.Reality took a millisecond to register that I was in "BROWN BREAD" territory if i'd hit something so backed off real quick. It won't be repeated on the VFR but I must admit it was a real "buzz".

Did an indicated 145 on the 4G the other day. Fastest I've ever been moving on land. Didn't check where the tach was at, too busy with other matters...

Check out this site to see how fast you're REALLY moving. You'll need the gearing specs from your handy workshop manual. The only variable I had in the equation was the rear tire circumference...

    Ryan's gearing formula javascript page

    I have a 170/60/17 rear tire, which converted to inches (170 / 25.4) would be a 6.69/60/17. Overall diameter of the tire would be 2 x (6.69(width) x 0.6(aspect ratio))+17 (rim diameter) = 25.03". Circumference = diameter(25.03) x pi (3.14159).

I got a circumference of 78.64", which I used to calculate my theoretical top speed (with stock 16/43 gearing and aerodynamics thrown out the window) of 158.6 mph.

    VT,

You were using 11,500 for redline, right? Somehow I'd come up with 15/45 for the sprockets, not 16/43 (big difference in top speed).

I've attached the spreadsheet I posted about earlier. Rows for each generation, with what I thought was the stock gearing/tire for each.

15/45 vs. 16/43 changes the top speed from 148 to 165 (at 12Krpm). At 11,500 and 16/43, it matches the calculator you linked to at 158mph.

    I used a 11.5k redline, and 16/43 is stock gearing for a 4G ('94-'97) bike.

BTW - Your spreadsheet will not open, either in WinZip or Excel.

Here are the ratios I used (direct from the '90-'97 Honda Service Manual)
    1st: 2.8461 (37/13)
    2nd: 2.0625 (33/16)
    3rd: 1.6315 (31/19)
    4th: 1.3333 (28/21)
    5th: 1.1538 (30/26)
    6th: 1.0357 (29/28)
    Primary: 1.9390 (64/33)
    Final: 2.6875 (43/16)

My calculations for the tire circumference are explained above.

Routinely hit 155mph now and on a long downhill the other day hit 162assuming a 10% speedo error thats only 140 and 146. Fun though and yes it sounds awesome especially with the incredibly loud V&H SS2R can. Stable as can be. Have taken a slightly uphill sweeper at 150 indicated, no problem.

I've hit 131mph on my Gen Six, with room to go. The previous owner told me he hit 167 on it. Not that daring yet. :) Looking forward to see what the difference will be when I install a PCIII.

One of the men I do work for on his rental property is a cop and we set up a time and place to meet, On a 2 mile long stretch of road he got me on Radar at 157 MPH on my 1999 VFR....WHAT A RUSH that was .

The first attempt was aborted due to some traffic, but the second pass was all clear and throttle wide open and tucked in tight behind the windscreen. I had pics of the Radar gun readout on my laptop but the damn thing fried onme , actually started smoking.

Yes I have done the same here in AL USA several times. One time, when I did get a ticket (for frigging 60 in a 45!) the state hwy patrolman said If I woulda run they would not give chase. So..like the other day, going about 110 indicated in a 50, when I passed one going the other way I just goosed it when I saw his taillights flash. made a quick run up to 140 for a while, made a few quick turns and no worries.

Just a quick question. When tooling around on the highway, who would be faster from a 60mph roll? A 2003 Honda CBR600RR or a 2000 VFR800? They both have 10,000 miles on them and very well taken care of.

What about around town? From a 35mph roll? Who would stay ahead longer? Would I be in the lead for a while, then him pass me?

I'm not a racer, just curious if my bike is faster than my friends CBR he is ALWAYS braggin about. Its just annoying.

I've only done 100mph on my box stock '85 VF500F, cuz about due for a valve adj. Will get that done later this month, with jet kit and K&N filter. Will lean on it a little harder then.
    Stay tuned....

I hit 95mph yesterday in the middle of some descent wind and I can't even imagine doing 150 if there is any wind at all. I went up to the miller motor sports park for the Ama and wolrds superbike race about a month ago and there was wind there. I don't get how the racers even keep it on the track!

    I have a friend...

who took his '00 up to an indicated 160 mph on a straight and lonesome South Dakotan road, with big floppy soft saddlebags and a brisk tail wind. No GPS, so his tale is as accurate as his speedometer.
