HD doesn't need an inroad to the European market. They are well established & have a waiting list in almost every country they are sold in. They also get even more money for their bikes in Europe than they do in the states. When I lived in Germany, any service member could buy a HD from the Overseas Military Sales Program. I personally have used this privilege twice. If you purchased a HD, you had to sign an agreement that you wouldn't turn around & sell it to a local since this would almost certainly guarantee the original purchaser a large profit.

This sale has two possible results:

    1) MV Augusta will have a backer with some $$$ and therefore be able to continue to makes bikes AND have a larger R&D budget to continue to develope bikes.

    2) HD will whore the MV Augusta name & let the bikes rot away.

    Who knows?

After the AMF debacle, my $$ is on number two. I myself would probably not buy either brand mainly due to cost, but I just don't really believe that HD recovered very well. I hope MVAG remains a well put together machine, tho HD could drop the price some. lol

i agree with you that there are 2 possible outcomes to this, but my speculations are somewhat different....

    (1) HD buys MV, maybe even reverse engineers some of the bikes, learns how to build a v-twin thats not a raging pile of low revving, no power making shit, and continues to build the type and quailty of bikes that put MV Agusta on the map, while at the same time FINALLY bringing HD into the 21st century and making the first american bike worth owning in DECADES

    (2) HD buys MV, plants their rednecked thumbs even further up their asses, ruins MV, and continues to make shit bikes marketed to automatons

personally, id like to see #1 happen, but knowing harley davidson, im not holding my breath.

I feel sorry for everybody that now owns an MV. How degrading for such beautiful machines. I wonder how long before they start putting chrome all over the brutale, or try and build an Italian cruiser.

    Such a shame.

The hi-lighted will never happen. Why you ask? Look at EVERY HD that HD has made that DOESN'T look like a "typical" HD. It will be immediately scorned, scoffed & ridiculed by the Orange & Black Cult. Look no further than the VROD. Very, very few HD loyalists like the VROD even though it is the single best bike they make.

I see #2 on both of the above scenarios. Fitting that #2 is synonymous with shite. Oh and HD too.
