F-it... Gear up, protect yourself, and by all means ride however you need to ride to get your rocks off so long as you don't put anyone elses' life or property at risk.
...and for goodness sakes have a Happy and Safe 4th of July.

What a waste of time, fighting over some who pray to be able to wheelie. Tip of the day, put your feet on the passenger pegs, Revvv her up to 12ooo RPM and let the clutch go....then, KISS YOUR GOODBYE...enjoy your next wheelie mate

Because people are extremely opinionated, yet few people can offer justification that doesn't have at least a few holes in it (as clearly illustrated in this thread).

I'm tired of the black-or-white crap too... If speed kills, then a low speed wheelie is much less dangerous on a public road that scraping pegs at high speed in a turn.

I'm no fan of wheelies or any kind of stunting in general. I'd much rather see someone riding a bike to the edge of the tread instead of riding on one wheel. But seriously, if you're going to hate on something, you have three options:

    (1) Offer a completely sensible and objective thought on the subject that sounds somewhat credible...
    (2) Just come out and say you have an irrational hatred for it and there is no good explanation (there's nothing wrong with having an opinion)...
    (3) Just keep your mouth shut.

i don't like them. I know its unsafe.

However, I have wanted to try one, so I am NOT going to say I am against it. I just prefer people not to do it in public or near others.

This doesn't mean I won't try this on my 1/2 mile long driveway :). (I won't, but you get my point?)

When I come out there in January I will put the Fear of Randy into them buggas and send them flying another direction. We can enjoy a brew at the campfire then.

    1) I'd like to see someone go tell Kevin Schwantz, Jason Pridmore, Keith Code, Lee Parks, Don Canet, Mitch Boehm, et al that cornering is squidding. I would like to be there when you do. I figure at least one of them will punch someone in the mouth for saying that.

    2) There has never been, nor will there ever be, a single instance in the history of motorcycling where pulling a wheelie has saved a life. Never, ever, ever, not once ever. Now, I do think that stuntaz are extremely talented riders. Jason Briton is featured in the video the USAF produced to be showed at all riding classes. I think Jason Briton is phenominally talented. If he keeps it off the streets like he says he does, then more power to him. It must be nice to get paid to ride a motorcycle. There is an ACME supermarket 3 miles from my house. The squids go behind the place to stunt. Sounds like a plan right? Problem is, they run from the cops every time the cops show up. I'd be willing to bet the cops wouldn't have a problem with this if one of the retards would man up & tell the police, "Hey, we're stunting back here so we keep it off the street." Every single time they run, they make a bad situation worse & make it harder for the rest of us who don't want to be hassled just because our bikes are wrapped in plastic.

    3) There has been probably 10's of thousands of instances where knowing how to corner saved a life. I am here to tell anyone the knowledge I have gained from taking multiple MSF classes, teaching MSF classes, taking the week long USAF Sport Bike Instructor Course & teaching the USAF SBC has saved my carcass on more than one occasion.

    4) It's this simple, if someone can't distinguish between skillfully operating a motorcycle on the road & stunting on the road, then that person is just plain dumb. What's next? Someone going to say it's no problem to have a beer or 2 & then ride home? :der:

    KC-10 FE out...

I agree with you, especially on point number 3, proper training can and will save your ass. I also agree that wheelies are unnecessary, damaging to you machine if done wrong, and the only reason to do it is because you want to.

They only thing I was pointing out is that going out on public roads and deliberately riding fast enough where it's necessary to get your knee down to complete a turn is also unnecessary, damaging to you machine if done wrong, and the only reason to do it is because you want to. You can argue that your building your skills but I would argue that you should be doing it some place other than the street.

I'm only saying that all of us pick our poison (so to speak) when we ride. I find it somewhat amusing that when someone writes, or posts a vid, about scuffing his knee pucks on a public street no one says anything. But someone asks about pulling up the front wheel and.........well you see what happens.

Ok I'm done on this one.

Action (part time squid 'cause I like wheelies :vtr2:)

OK wow somehow this turned into a road saftey arument and all I was asking was if anyone had any advice of gettin the wheel up. No where in my question did I say I wanted to do it on a public road. I did say I wanted to do it on the highway because thats the only place to get enough speed or ride it for enough time around here. Like I said b4 the highway behind my house is always empty and a good place to ride. Please if anyone has any real "ADVICE" on wheeling please post... thats what I was asking about. All you "saftey-f*ckin-eers" chill out and quit saying the same thing over and over in diffrent words. I think everyone gets the picture that riding fast, draggin knees, wheeling, whatever is dagerous around other cars... NO SH*IT... COMMON SENSE! STFU! we aint stupid just ride a little diffrent than you!

There is absolutely NO reason, on the street, to enter a corner at a speed that requires hangin' a cheek or draggin/scrapin' parts to negotiate the turn....
We all do it because it is FUN!!!
There is also no reason to purposefully lift our front wheel....
We all do it because it is FUN!!!!
Hell, none of us really even NEEDS a bike in the first place....
We all ride because it is FUN!!!
If I wanted to be scolded for bieng a rider,I'd go visit my MOM!!!!

I have a Honda to do wheelies on. On yesterdays ride I probably pulled several hundred of them. I'll do many more tomorrow. I spend a lot of time in the air, and some on the ground on it. It is what I bought it for.
To pull the front end up, all I have to do is twist the right wrist. Up she comes.
Here is a picture from yesterday. Mine is the one on the left.

You've got to be kidding... I saw this guy pull one up to use his bike as a shield from the bullets flying at him..... I've seen this more than once in movies so I know it works.:bootyshake2:

On the mater of the wheelie (head shaking.) Yea it's fun, like RW saud and I've said it so many times myself, time and place.. We are taking a beating up here with the law all because of some show offs, now you can't even stand and stretch with out being caught on tape and turned in for stunting . Mercy

This has got to be said. Most of men sound like a bunch of caddy old women who have nothing better to do than B**** about something. The guy just asked for tips on how to do a wheelie. He didn't need two pages of people bickering about rather it is safe or necessary. If done in the proper place GREAT!
Hopefully someone can give him so USEABLE advice! :vtr2::focus: :amen: Enough said

This is turning into a stitch and bitch so I am un-subscribing to this one. Hope you get an answer you can use and find a safe place to do whatever you wish to do. And I hope you don't damage you steed doing so.

Seen a lot a guys who could ride wheelies for days, and their bikes look beat to hell. That said I would love to be able to ride wheelies like they do. Soften up the rear spring really helps and less gas is a major factor. I got pretty decent at it on my KLR650 w/36hp so I dont think power is that much of an issue.Trail riding you should really know how to wheelie, can save you from going over the bars when you come accross something in your way. I'm now working on draggin that knee, seems to be more socially accepted by the group of people I ride with, but we're old.

The VFR is too classy and mature for me to beat her up while trying to learn something that will get my bike impounded in a heartbeat around here. Have fun trying though.
