My chain is too tight for half its rotation and too loose for the other half when I adjust the tension on my '04. Does that mean I have a bearing issue or need a sproket / chain replacement? 22,000 miles. Frustrating. Bike is perfect otherwise.

chain stretched un-evenly. you need a new chain and sproket. replace both or the new chain will wear out fast.

if you insist on riding it in it's unsafe condition make sure the tight side of the chain is within the normal tension limits or you will throw out your counter bearing on the shaft for the front sprocket by putting too much pressure on it.

If you have 22k on your chain - its probly time for a replacement. If you do that, youll need to go with new front and rear spockets too.

    Good luck,

OEM chains usually wear out by 20-25,000 miles, so you were due for replacement.

because we know you'll keep riding for awhile.....as suggested above, adjust chain tension at the tightest point of the chain and don't worry about excess slack elsewhere..,....but replace chain soon!
