I will be replacing my beloved 98 VFR (totaled) with a sixth gen soon. I am looking at 2002 to buy right now.

What is your favorite exhaust for the sixth gen? My 98 had a TBR full race exhaust and it was awesome in sound and performance.

    Leo Vince?
    Scorpion?
    TBR?
    Gutted?
    Other?

Looking for a good, but not the most expensive, system. Thanks for the input.

Look to '04 or later if possible, exhaust wise my personal favourite for sound is Spuds out Staintunes and favourite for looks is the quad Lasers.

Why should I stay away from the 02 and 03s?

There we a few little changes like longer Cam chain guides, its also my general rule to wait 1 to 2 years in a model run before buying any new car or motorcycle, saying that know a couple of folks that have owned '02 VFR's since new that have had Zero problems with them.

There's nothing like the sound of a 6th Gen with the Leo Vince with the baffles out... I WILL own them one day. Check Youtube for people who have posted before and after videos. there's a thread on this site somewhere that lists most of the vids. I'm just too lazy to find it right now...

Hey - still got the totaled bike? Those TBR headers are hard to come by.

If you want a full exhaust, I have searched a lot and the only company that I could find that made headers for the 02 & up is Motad. I have them on my 02 along with the Micron slip-ons(the Micronns were in my budget range). It sounds great and the headers made a HUGE DIFERRENCE in power over any mod I have done. Oh, and by the way I have not had any problems with my 02 VFR & am the second owner of it & have had it for 3 years. You can check out my pics in my photo gallery. If you go for the 02 or even an 03 make sure the bike has had the charging sysem recall, the rear sub-frame recall, & have them check the wireing harness to see if it needs the recall done. Don't let those recalls scare you. My bike has had all those recalls, the first 2 done before I got it, & the wiring harness was done just this winter.

So what exactly happened to your bike?

The bike was hauled away - yes I am very pissed about the exhaust - one of the best features on the bike.

The bike hit the guardrail, I don't know what it did after that because I was flying over it and down the mountain side! All the plastics broken and scraped, mirrors busted off, handlebars bent, dash was tweaked, clutch cover cut through, and other random scratches and scrapes.

I will try to get the vin from the dealer that is selling the 02 and check with Honda to see if it was taken care of. Thanks for the advice so far, keep it coming.

I may try to find out the salvage company that took the bike away and see if I can buy the headers back from them. The can was scratched though.

I have an 07 and I just put Leo Vince aluminum cans on this week. I rode it this morning with the baffles in but decided to get them out and it is a lot different than with them in!!! It was not a lot of fun doing the install..... Instructions are pretty basic but the straps that hold the cans suck to put on. The rubber gasket kept coming off and the straps took a lot of "forming" to connect at the mounting point. If you want your bike to be throaty and a little obnoxious keep the baffles out. Nothing on YouTube comes close to the actual sound. My ears were ringing after a 25 mile ride home from work. I never really thought I'd need plugs!! I need to play with the map a bit on my PCIII because its a little lean now and it rumbles and pops a little on decel.... I have to say I like it though. I paid $545 for them at my dealer.... Not bad for LV's even in aluminum. I've heard Staintunes on a 6th gen and its pretty close to the sound I have now but big $$$. Good luck on your next bike, glad to hear you are ok at least.

found a used 2 Bros Ti system that i put on mine. no complaints and lots of compliments. entire install took about an hour, and that was foolin' around and lots of beer breaks. pretty damn easy.

With 2 6 gens in the garage, one with Lasers, the other with Remus, I like the Laser better. So far it was easier to reinstall the OEM bags with the Lasers as well. They sound amazing, not too loud, but you know its running and I think the 4 pipes really goes well with the look of the VFR. Kinda like a space ship. I'm very happy I got them. $850 from pipecity.com.

Do yourself a favor and check out Microns before you buy. They have a beautiful throaty roar, especially over 6400 rpm. They also give the bike a seriously meaty look. One mans opinion of course. Staintunes don't offer much in sound if you're looking for something meaner than the stocks. Opinions and a$&!oles, right? Anyway, Two Bros sell you two cans just as everyone else, difference being only one works. The other is a dummy that can be used as storage, expensive storage. If you'd like some sound clips let me know. Good luck

after following both Micron & Staintune equiped Gen 6's over many miles thought the Microns while louder and mean sounding at lower Revs seem to loose their lolly at the higher while the spuds out burnt in Staintunes just keep sounding better and better as Revs build with more of a defined small blockish note, but as you say about opinions...
