Not an idiot.... Just normal.... You never know when somehting little like that is going to happen to anyone. You could put your leg down and your foot slip on sand and BOOM!

NO sweat... Look on the bright side. Now you don't have to worry anymore about scratches. Fix what is needed to ride and get on with it. Fix the rest later.

    Glad you are OK

We've all been there before, one way or another. Still a bummer though. First good long ride you take will take care of the anguish though, after that you'll be grinning ear to ear at what an awesome machine the VFR is.

Those Vmax's are pretty cool, you see the 2009 model yet? I'm not sure of the looks, but you have to be impressed with 200hp+

I agree that the tires should be cleaned, scuffed sanded, etc before they leave the shop. but I am not sure tires are the root of the issue.

When talking to a service guy that works at both of the local dealers, he mentioned that about 1/3 of the new bikes sold at either dealership are dropped in the first 30 days. Moslty due to getting used to the bike or differences in the bike. Putting your foot down like you are used to on another bike, braking, side stand or something little like getting used to seat height.

    Welcome

Painful, but this too shall pass. My dealer scrubbed the tires and I survived my first ride around town at minus three centigrade. I was very proud of myself, but the bike decided to humble me by taking a nap on the garage floor. Very painful. :frown: A new brake lever, straightened brake pedal, and some touch up paint, and we both feel much better now.

When I worked for Soutbay we did PDIs on bikes (Pre-Delivery Inspection), essentially making sure all the fluids are correct levels, horn, lights, brakes, etc. work.

Most of the time a salesman would come into the back and it'd be something like "I got a customer that's coming to pick up ___ in 20 minutes for delivery, get it off the sales floor, get it PDIed, wipe it down and get it loaded on the truck so you can follow the customer home." With the number of bikes sold per day and the limited human resources to prep/PDI bikes, that 10 minutes to scrub the tires is actually a big deal; it's a lot easier for the selling salesman when he's giving the final run down of the bike with the customer to say "for the first tank full, go easy, the tires are slippery until the mold release wears off."

I think Ignorant Bystander should be put on probation at least for two years for hurt'n that poor bike. And being a seasoned rider, he should know better that to show such disrespect for such a fine piece of engineering.:vader:

It may be faster/easier, but it is necessarily better to do so.....safer? That is the million dolla holla! An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of preservation...

Oh of course it would be safer, but then the dealership wouldn't have very many first hundred mile post-wreck bikes to charge 80/hr. labor + gouged parts.

Service center at Southbay made a LOT of money from laid down bikes. Mostly GSXRs an Rs, no surprise there :viff:

    dewd...you broke my heart.

sonofabitch the dealer should have razzed the rubber for ya or at least give you the 911 on them before you hauled out.. these bikes are lil monsters till they are broke in a bit.. pulls like a tractor and wants to grunt. They are so top heavey that if you canter past full upright and are not familiar with it, you better have a strong and ready leg to hold her in place. A sharp turn from the dead stop will bite like dracula.

I know most of the decals can be bought. Go to this site..

Motorcycle parts, OEM motorcycle parts, Aftermarket motorcycle parts available online

    click on "Dealer Services"

    click on "Parts Finder"

Locate your bike in the drop downs..

    then click on "Marks"

you will find all of your part numbers in there to give to your dealer.

Get it sanitized or you will eat yourself every time you throw a leg over and see the damage. .02

    welcome to the board.

    Dude, that sucks donky dk!
I feel your pain. I had the same thing happen to me and managed to blame the dealership and got them to pay for the repairs.

It was April 1995 in CT and I had just purchesed a brand new GSXR750.
Got a walkthrough, suited up and road out of the parking lot.
Not even 20 feet away I took a slight left hand turn and the bike shot out from under me like a quarter when you hold it on it's side and press down hard.

It bounced hard on it's left hand side and slide to the side of the road.
I ended up doing a face plant, with helmet on ofcourse, and cracked the face shield. The whole left side fairings, mirror, blinker, clutch lever, and barend where toast.

As I walked over to the bike I noticed a whole mess of greesy looking stuff on both tires contact patch as well as the sides. Cosmilene (spelling?) packing to keep tires from dry-rotting before sold. I then looked at the odometer, not even a tenth of a mile on the bike! They never even took the bike out to make sure it ran correctly and stopped. A few runs up and down the parking lot would have scrubed the cosmilene off the tires enough to ride and would also make sure the bike would stop and run correctly.

I pushed the bike right back over to the dealership, nobody seemed to have taken notice, and reamed out the owner for a good half hour in front of other customers. It wasn't until I mentioned calling my lawer that he changed his mind in my favor.

Seven months later when I had relocated to Costa Mesa, CA, someone stole that bike in the middle of the night.

Moral of the story? Take your pick:
    1. Check and re-check everything on a new bike and make sure and understand what the dealer is suposed to do upon delivery.
    2. Don't purchase a cold blooded race bike in CT in April.
    3. Should have bought a VFR.
