I took a look at the SW-MOTECH setup for a '99 and liked the way you could remove the bags and rack easily. Does anyone have any comments on the use of these racks?

I have a '98, but I am not sure what the SW-Motech is. Have a link? I have Givi bags....see below.

Yeah, I took a look at your photos. I like the look, but I want to be able to take the gear off fast.

I've been trying to figure out what to do about luggage because the color-matched stuff for the red '07 is back ordered until August (at the earliest).

I've been leaning towards the V35 bags and haven't decided between the SW-Motech mount or the Givi mount. It bugs me a bit that Givi decided to use the passenger footpeg at a support point instead of the hole that the factory mounts use (which are made by Givi by all accounts) up nearer the bodywork.

Anyway, the threads about the SW-Motech mount breaking seemed to be discussing an aluminum mount. The SW-Motech mount for the V35 bags is supposed to be made of tubular steel.

    https://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/3869/

"The Quick-Lock racks are made of tubular steel..."

They are more expensive than the Givi mount (by about $60), but I kind of like the way they can be removed, they seem a little less obvious on the bike (due to the lack of the footpeg brace, they use the upper hole), and they might fit a smidge closer to the bike than the Givi one (I've been studying a couple of pictures and it's a bit hard to tell).

whitesmokeyzf: I see you're in Albany. I'm up in Tigard. Do you ever come up this way with the bike? I wouldn't mind taking an in-person look.

    First post...

So I picked up my like-new '04 VFR today. I like the SW-MOTECH quick release setup...it looks clean, and being able to get it off in short fashion is also cool.

TwistedThrottle's description states that this setup is intended for OEM equipment. I'd like to lose the factory mufflers and go with something else, eventually.

Anybody know if this SW MOTECH quick release rack for Givi v35 cases is compatible or incompatible with aftermarket mufflers?

SW Motech Racks & bags for '02 VFR w/Staintune Exhaust

I just installed the 37 liter TRAX Alu Box panniers w/the SW Motech Side Rack Carrier system. The panniers are powder coated (inside and out) black aluminum and great quality and weather proof. The panniers have very high quality and rugged latches with optional key locking system (same key for four locks). The SW Motech side carrier system is a very well designed system and mounts very easlity on a stock 6th generattion VFR (they sell kitsfor other gens as well) w/Staintune exhaust. The side carrier system has an optional locking fastener feature so you can lock everything to the bike and feel confident that only a well prepared thief can get your stuff. I got the all black bags thinking they would compliment the Red/Black color scheme of the '02 VFR and I was very happy with this choice. After I installed the system I rode my bike around wanting to show off to my riding buddies who were all very impressed with the system. Total cost from Twistedthrottle.com (including shipping) was just under $1k. More good news is that if you have a second bike (or might purchase a second bike) you can use the same panniers but will need to purchase new side carriers for the second bike and a new adapter parts kit. Cost for that - $400 and you can use the same great panniers on both bikes. Also the SW Motech TRAX Alu Box system has additional accessories such as bag liners, top mount expandable bags for each pannier, top mount pannier handle system, rear trunk system, camera bag insert, etc...... Great system, excellent quality and I recommend this system to anybody. Oh, the bags are easily removed with one latch and off you go. The side carriers are removed with backing out three connection points. Very easy on and off. Plan ahead - the side carriers arrived last, took about 2 months to ship from Germany.
I would attach a pic but I don't have a digital camera. Sorry.
