Hey all, was just driving on the job and saw a BRAND NEW 2008 Fireblade (CBR1000RR) being pushed to the side of the road. Rider took a sharp turn too wide and smacked the front wheel on the curb, looks like it went down on its left side. Front wheel has a nice pizza wedge bend in it. I felt for the poor guy. Since he is going to be getting some of this :ncb: from the dealer for a new front wheel/plastics....

I almost asked if I could just have it. He looked pretty upset though. Im thinking it was a "too much bike" scenario.

Read a stat saying 1/4 will write off there bike in the first year with the new cbr1000rr. Some intresting motorcycle stats out there.

as an aside had some guy ask me if that was my red fire blade in the parking lot....turns out he thought my 6gen vfr was the cbr because it was bigger than the 600's.

that 1/4 statistic does not surprise me in the least. I think probably 1/2 of the folks purchasing those things are waaaay too underexperienced to handle that kind of power. Same with an R1, or most of the other liter machines.

They are just such awesome machines, I think guys get sucked in...

I know what you mean. I almost succombed to that desire when I decided on the VFR. The VFR was my attempt at staying _almost_ respectable...

I talk to a Honda Salesman the other day and he said the life expectancy of those bikes is about 6 months due to people wiping out.

What is the one consistent complaint about Suzuki and Kawasaki? Build quality. They know the lifespan is very short given their target audience. Even if you take the street squid out of the equation, the average track/race bike lasts what? 3-4 years at the most?

I would be very surprised to find out that the 1000RR has a shorter life expectancy than a GSX-R or ZX-10R. Simply different customers. Honda isn't the "cool" brand that attracts more squids and street club type guys like the GSX-R.

Front page news in the local papers. Local 21 year old NHL hockey player was killed two days after buying one of these types of bike. Can't tell from the photos what type it was other than an IL4 but judging from the damage to the truck he was going way to fast without the skill. Why do the young guys have to buy these machines!! Such as waste.

Studies show that the male brain does not fully comprehend risk until about 24 years old. That is why so many accidents of all kinds are skewed to young males. They just don't get it that they are mortal.

I read a couple articles on this accident. One said the truck hit him, the next that he hit the truck, another (actually the first I read) was non-specific. Your's had a picture? So it was his fault, he hit the truck?

    Mortal?

    Hey Nung,

Instead of mortal, don't you mean doomed to suffer in Saṃsāra?

Jeff8478: you have me rolling! Very good. Yes! All life is suffering...that we want more and more performance seals the fate...we shall forever be unhappy. As George Harrison sang, "thinking is the best way to travel..."
I just imagine I am riding my motorcycle fast...and have a Holy Cow sandwhich!
    Ah GOOD KARMA!

And it is true, women :vanity: develop the sense of restraint earlier than men.

Just because it is probably true doesn't mean we want hear it! And for what it is worth, most males wreck themselves trying to impress women... I think I'll change the subject before this gets much worse.

One of my pals has a particular style of racing car/kart that uses an inline 4 cylinder liter bike engine, primarily Yamaha R1. He has a stack of engines, and has no trouble getting more from the bone yards. Sad, but true.

This is all in fun! No mean-ness intended at all! But, are men really faster than women?? I think they very well may be.

Where is Russian River by Ocean in CA? Curious.

Thanks! Everyone have a great weekend and drive safe!

Sorry if my last reply came off differently than I intended; that happens sometimes! I was poking fun at the human animal not wanting to acknowledge inconvenient facts, in addition to males being somewhat idiotic when trying to impress a female. Being male, I'm vividly aware of this sad fact.

And I believe that, on average, women have faster reflexes than men, and also more endurance. Physically, other than the obvious, the biggest difference is upper body strength. That's about all the textbook stuff that I remember.

The exact town is Cazadero, which is about 5 miles inland from where the Russian River hits the Pacific Ocean. It's one of those, "Let's put in a Post Office; now it is a town" kind of places.

I am sorry...I mean proud...I mean embarrassed... or whatever to say there is a fine line between man and a stray dog near a bitch in heet:ncb:

Can I say bitch if I refer to the female persuasion of the canine type?

I think you can say it in whatever context you would like, provided that the reactions won't bother you... :vader::yousuck::eek::unsure::mad::frown::bolt: etc, etc.

On second thought, I'm probably not the best person to offer guidance on this...

    Sorry LG,

The facts are that men are faster (Running) and we do have more endurance due to our greater muscle mass. It's a Physiological fact. If we weren't, we wouldn't be here we would have died out long ago. vive le difference. we had go out and kill the mammoth while they took care of tasks more sedentary due to their having to care for our progeny. We needed them and they needed us. Our society has leveled the playing field and made physical strength less important. Men do take more chances and women do mature faster. It was a matter of survival. Just wanted to make you think. All in good fun.
