Just joined the site. Have had my 2003 VFR ABS since April 2008 and am really loving it. Have put almost 2K miles on it with a lot more to come as the weather becomes more like summer. :vanity: Are there other women VFR riders out there? I got started a bit late in life, but boy am I glad I did!

Hey man! Welcome to the forum! We have several Oregon folk on here, and more seem to keep coming out of the woodwork each and everyday! I am heading up to your beautiful state (in my truck) in about 2 weeks. Gonna be swingin' thru Bend as well. Any good campsites or cheap hotels you can recommend? Good place to eat as well?

    Later :afro:

Welcome, VFR2003. Poor Shorty has become the token woman here. Some of these guys have very sensitive sides, even if they hide it.

Hi Jason - although I don't fit the term "man":party2: one place you have to experience for the beer and the food and atmosphere is the Deschutes Brewery, 1044 NW Bond Street in Bend. It is a microbrewery and has unequivocally the best beer in the world. Black Butte Porter, Bachelor Bitter, Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Obsidian Stout....and the list goes on and on. The food is excellent, the staff are fantastic, it is a noisy place - and a great experience. Great camping at Tumalo Falls campground between Sisters, OR and Bend.

Ed - Geez, why am I one of the only female VFR riders.....it is a lonesome world. My husband rides an ST 1300. I have only been riding since last July started on a Shadow 600 VLX, then to a Shandow Spirit 750, then for a very short time the ST 1100 (found it a bit too heavy), then my Viffer in March - I enjoy it more and more all the time. Just wish I had found motorcycles many years ago!!

Jean, I think Shorty must scare all the other women away. It can't be the rest of the denizens of this site.

I started riding late also, and at times I regret not getting a bike earlier. I have done lots of bicycling--over 200,000 miles--but I only started motorcycling in 2004. There are lots of similarities. (There is a hill near me that I can reach 65 mph going down on my bicycle, if I get a bit of tail wind. That is a thrill.) I picked up a used Honda ACE Tourer 1100, and I rode it everywhere, including trips to South Dakota, Spokane, and Minneapolis. I love any kind of ride, but packing up and going for a multiday tour with a hint of a marathon in it simply floats my boat. I got my vfr in January, and I love it. I like the torque of the shadow, but I like everything else about the vfr.

Thanks for the info on the girl riders......and I'll betcha it wasn't Shorty that scared the other girls ofr. I do believe I am beyond the age of makin' the 12 year old's drool, but you have all been highly entertaining.

I took one mountain bike ride of about 30 miles a couple of years ago,,,husband got me into it, after several crashes in that 30 miles, I decided I wasn't overly fond of mountain bike riding....although this area is known for miles and miles of great trails.

Whitesmokeyzf - Actually in years past, Ran the Service Creek to Spray Half Marathon - I think 3 different times. Great fun and a beautiful area. My husband and I took a ride a few weeks ago from Bend to Prineville to Mitchell to Service Creek to Antelope to Madras to Prineville then back to Bend -about 6 hours worth of riding - great fun!! When you are in the area we'll all have to take a ride.

VFR Guy 2000 - thanks for the welcome - I was a bit nervous about joining up, but so far you guys aren't so bad

Jean, These days I am strictly a road cyclist (takes too long to heal from the falls mountain biking entitles you to), but some folks here--Derstucka, for one--mountain bike. Thirty miles mountain off road is a good workout!

The maturity level had gotten far too high here. I had to take care of it.

Glad to have you along! You will love your bike as we all do, and if you ever need technical help or suggestions, we sometimes know a thing or two.

Everyone likes a :vanity: on a bike! Welcome!
