Been cleaning up and playing with my 96, and I have a few questions. I know my 86 in and out, but this is a different animal. Some may sound very dumb to you veteran owners, but just help me out if possible please - easier to ask than to pull it all apart at this point. And I don't have the manual. Yet. Admittedly I haven't done all my homework, but I want to get it right ASAP so I can get riding.

    1. Is there a fuel petcock? I don't see one externally. How do you empty the carbs for winter?
    2. Fuel pump is there like the 86?
    3. Previous owner told me reserve kicks in automatically when fuel light comes on. True?
    4. Clutch adjustable? Mine catches pretty far out, and I'd like to eek a little more time from it if possible.
    5. Any air go into front forks? Where?
    6. Can I adjust rear spring height/firmness? Where is adjustment?
    7. Why can't guys driving Escalades see me at intersections on a bright red bike and a yellow helmet/jacket combo??? (admittedly, this is a tougher question)

    Thanks all!!!!

    7. Cuz they ain't lookin...
    6. I believe the shock has a damping adj at the top. It can be changed by turning the ratchet left or right with the Honda tool. higher is tighter, lower is looser.

I'll try to answer your questions

    1. Yes under the tank. Stays on all the time unless you need to remove tank

    2. Yes. mounted high left side of frame. Runs as needed to maintain required pressure

    3. Low fuel light goes on with about 1 gal. to go. No conventional type reserve.

    4. Hydraulic clutch actuator. no adjustment, as long as it doesn't slip, you're OK.

    5. No air, spring pre-load only

    6. Pre-load adjustment right side through the little hole, 8mm if I recall.

    7. Buy a pipe so the Escalades hear you first!

Free manuals are out there. I downloaded mine from vfrd, there is probably a link here somewhere.

Just noticed vtviffer beat me to it! I'm not wasting all this typing! So here goes.

THANKS GENTS!!!!!! Super fast responses - thanks to all.

I had an idea on most of it, but the tips and confirmations are worth a LOT. Thanks very much. Coming off the old-school ride, it helps to know the changes.

Oh, and on the Escalade thing - I've got a Two Brothers pipe on it already, he wasn't on the phone, and I couldn't hear his stereo. Maybe I need to keep the bike closer to 7000 rpm all the time.
