Care for leather Sargent saddle....

    I just picked up a barely used leather Sargent saddle for my 98 VFR. Love the fit & finish. I wanted to ask the group your recommendation / experience on the best way to keep the leather protected and soft to avoid drying out and cracking. What have you used and how often?

    I would think that using a leather conditioner and cleaner, such as used on leather jackets would be good to use. I would probably take a stroll into a shoe/leather repair place near you and see what they recommend and have to use.

    Skidmores leather cream works for me, they're in Wyoming, been using the product for 20 plus years!

    Nice pics! The seat looks great! Hey I have a question. I notice that the Sargent saddles comes in two pieces as opposed to the stock one piece design. How does this new seat install and remove with the stock hardware? If you use stock method, does this remove both seats at the same time? Does the new seat just bolt in, or do you have to install aftermarket brackets/accessories to use it??

    No need for any modifications. The front seat slides forward and hooks onto the cross brace on the frame. The rear seat has two tabs on it that push against the front seat the it locks in the way the stock seat does. Everything is secure provided the rear seat is locked into place as it stops the front from sliding back. The leather quality is very good and the seat design is slightly lower, wider and flatter than the stock. I'm heading down to Port Dover this Friday the 13th so I will give a solid break in then.

    Rear Cowl

    I heard the rear cowl can not be placed over the sargent rear seat? Anyone know if this is true?

    Nope, the cowl doesn't fit over the rear section of the seat. When you run with the cowl in place, you now have a nice storage area as oppossed to the 1" or so you get with the seat on.

    I'm a Mequires nut - there is an Upholstery Cleaner I use most of the time and when it needs extra help Meguires Leather conditioner. Sometimes an over the winter thing, I do a Connolly Leather Cream Hide Care thing, work it in with a toothbrush, let dry and buff. Pricy stuff, but good.

    I agree that on the gen 6 thats true. On the gen 5 (mine) I don't believe so. As per KC-10 FE.

    The leather on that seatcover could be split leather. Any real shoe repair should have Lexol. Another good product line for both fabrics and leather is Nik-Wax out of UK. I have used regular clear shoe wax on leather seats too. (KIWI) works fine.
