UPDATE: HIS BIKE HAS BEEN FOUND!

I just was updating this thread with the new info, and he tells me that the police just notified him that they found his bike in Vista (nearby city about 10 miles away). They had a tip of suspicious activity in a business park area, and when investigating, they came across his bike. No arrests have been made. His bike had the ignition ripped out, and he is in the process of having it flat-bedded home. Thanks to all those for listening. I hope they catch the thief/theives and lock them up for a long time.

My friend's 2000 Yamaha YZF600R6 was stolen from Escondido, California on Wednesday night (5/6/2009). It was stolen from a locked garage in an apt complex. He had it parked in front of his car, but the thieves still managed to get to it, and get it out. Of course, somebody was probably watching him, or maybe the thief could live near him, you never know. He did find his ignition on the ground. They also took off with his white Arai helmet with a dragon on it, and his leather/carbon gloves.

    VIN: JYARJ04Y4YA001030
    California Plate: 15M1815

Mods: Clear flush mount side markers, blue handle grips, fender eliminator kit, cool blue headlights, stainless yohimura pipe.

Ok, let's state the obvious....YES, it is highly unlikely that this bike will ever been seen again....at least in one piece. Yes, it could be in Mexico already, or in a chop shop in AZ. I understand that....no need to state the obvious. I am asking for any locals (or anybody in SoCal) to let me know if they see anybody trying to part out an R6, or sell an R6 whole, without a title in the next few weeks. My friend is already even more bummed out because he only has liability on it, and no renters insure. So yes, he knows that he took a chance, and is most likely f@#ked with a snowballs chance in hell of ever seeing it again, or seeing a penny from it.

I am including some pics from a few years back of his bike. I have not seen it in a couple of years. Another update, I guess the bottom pic is the most current. No more blue windscreen. However, from what I know, it still looks mostly the same. I will update this thread if any of the information that I stated was in error, or with any updates. Thanks for your help.

Hum lets see....You said friend but yet have not seen his bike in a few years??? Maybe its in your garage from a revenge act from the last time you saw him?

I think its a positive thing it getting stolen. First you get to buy a VFR and second you get new gear......hope it had full coverage.

But yes having you stuff taken leaves you with a pretty bad feeling that take awhile to get over. Sorry to hear, and oh, good reason # 3.... Easier decision to move out of that rat race!

They should do to bike thieves what they do in Saudi Arabia. I hope the police locate your friend's bike. Good luck!

I just posted this on Bay Area Rider's Forum. They do have members in SoCal and they frequent the used bike outlets.

    Good luck.

As someone who has been stolen from I know first hand how crappy it feels. I hope your friend is able to resolve this in a way that suits him best, whether that is getting a new bike with insurance money or getting his old one back.

Also good to see ya stookie

Reading comprehension FAIL, the guy only had liability and no renters insurance. As for this being a good thing, somebody must gotten dropped on their head a few times as a child....

This is bad news all the way around.

Thanks Nards. I've received more details. From what I have heard a manager of a bike shop called American Sportbike in Vista saw a bike in the weeds behind their shop as he was having a smoke break. As to how it got there, that is still speculation.

I guess he better start putting full coverage (or at least comp) on the ole girl!

My sentiments exactly Joseph! From the sounds of it, it was probably VERY close to getting parted out.

I would warn him to set up some security measures. Once they strike at a place they are likely to go back and try it again. They may have got spooked the first time, saw a cop or how knows. Alarm, motion lights, trip wires, something that will make it a bit harder and not as quite if there is a next time.

Glad to hear a happy ending to a story that hardly ever has one. Cool beans.
