I will be flying in to Heathrow 28 Jun.
We are going to go to a wedding on one day and the rest of the time is just vacation.
We will be renting a car and driving up into Edinburgh where we have a place rented and we will be doing day trips from there.
We are there until 16 July so I'm hoping that's enough time to see some cool things.

I really have only stated 2 things I plan to do:
    Try real haggis
Drink at a pub that is older than my country

Suggestions of other things to do? I won't be renting a bike or I'd most likely just disappear on it around the country but since I'm with family that won't happen.

We spent a couple nights in Edinburgh. The Castle is a must of course. The Britannia is a nice and give you a new understanding of the pompousness of the royals. I thoroughly enjoyed the Scotland part of our trip. Haggis with the sauce that usually comes with it is quite tasty in my opinion. The places we stayed while at different locations there served it or had it available at just about every meal including breakfast.

    WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!

Don't go into a pub, order up a single malt, and ask for water or ice. You WILL get deported.

We want pix, here and FB.

Also. I was just thinking that the big Tattoo is usually held around this time of the year. Were just ahead of that when we were there and I would have just loved to see that. But bagpipes and marching bands are not for everyone. You are going to just love this trip Reg. I am envious.

Like mountains, head to fort William. Glencoe, Ben Nevis. Take a trip on the Jacobite express from Fort William to mallaig. It's a steam train that goes over the glenfinnan viaduct ( of the harrypotter fame). Loads to see and do depending on what you like.

Isn't Nelix in Scotland. Ah yes, but I think he is on the other side of the country. In Glasgow? That must be about a 1 -1 1 /2 hours ride from where you will be I recon

Glasgow is only an hour from Edinburgh, not as pretty a city but friendlier inhabitants. I'm on my 18 days off then so give me a shout if you are planning on seeing Glasgow.

I think we may be planning on Glasgow also, but I haven't really been the one doing the planning. I'll try and get back to you on that.

Not sure how to chat once I'm over there because I'm not activating cellular. I will have wifi where I'm staying I'm sure. I suppose facebook IM or something like that would work.

As Diving Pete says - I will be flying into Heathrow the day before you arrive - to collect my motorbike and on Friday will head off from Pete's to a motorbike meet in Swindon over the following weekend (you would be most welcome to join us!). Swindon is just 2 hours ride from Heathrow but we (80+ bikes) intend exploring lots of stunning roads and hostelries in the surrounding area. (Don't forget Diving Pete has a heap of very nice motorbikes if you can smuggle a helmet into your luggage - so perhaps we could disappear for a few hours riding whilst Terri and your credit card head for the shops?).

Of course if we can arrange a place to meet up I will be happy to buy a beer for you and Terri. Pete has a standing order at a pub just minutes from the airport with a nice beer garden. What is possible depends if you plan a short stay in London before heading on to Scotland or will just change planes at Heathrow to a flight to Scotland. As for contact Pete and I use Skype and Viber voice and text messaging - (its a shame the PM system has disappeared with the new forum platform).

Soon after the Swindon meet, I will be riding back to the French Alps before family arrive at my place the following weekend. If you have no fixed plans after the wedding perhaps you could still fit in a visit to Geneva (Switzerland) in which case I can pick you up and sort out rooms at my hotel for all of you - no need to bring a tent, and I can even rustle up a motorbike and spare helmet or three!
