I thought of giving you a call Randy but I was on such a tight schedule it didn't work out. I was in Mt Baker wilderness and even closer to you in Garibaldi provincial park at Garibaldi Lake. I will try next time for sure.

I was wondering if that was Baker. Mt Baker is closer to me than Garibaldi I think. But I have never been there.

Baker got 850" this year, we hiked on snow most of the time. Got lost countless times as all trails and signs were under snow. Good to brush up on route finding skills. Always have a map and compass and know how to use them. The declination out your way is crazy, I think for that area it was 15.5 degrees.

These are fairly remote and as you can see, don't see much use. So conflicts with other users is not a problem.

Gator. I really do admire you for your love and respect of the out doors and our environment. I have that same love. I only wished I spent considerable more time and learned the art of mountain hiking earlier in life. You have posted some wonderful shots of your hikes. The bonus is it appears to run in the family and you can enjoy this experience, that really so few either get the opportunity to, or don't care, with your loved ones. Kept them coming.

I was slowly increasing my hikes but this year have a set back in that I get a new hip sometime in the near future. The good thing about that is I will be able to continue this experience soon as I heal up, but without the occurrence of slight pain with each step. I know it can be done as on my day hikes in the local hills, I often run into peole older than me up there. There is an awful lot of European people hiking our trails. Sounds like they are from Germany, Austria or Switzerland. I'm not quite sure on the accent. But they are welcome to our mountains and trails. They are not the ones throwing around the chip wrappers and beer cans. Or spent ammunition.

    Randy,

I had both hips and a total knee replacement last year. It is a life changing event!

Make sure your doctor is going to do the "Anterior" approach for the hip. It is a small incision and does not cut through the main muscles that hold the hip in place.

I was walking with a walker 4 hours after surgery, went home the next day, and back to work with a cane 3 days later. Knees are tougher, but what a difference.

You will ask yourself why you waited so long!

A friend has had both hips done, he was in jeopardy of not riding any longer. Now he runs and works out and riding is not painful any longer. Rehab was the key he said. I plan on keeping my ass moving for as long as I can. My kids have passed me in the endurance and speed realm but I'm not much slower than them. I keep giving them gear to haul, mountain stove, fuel, ect.
There is a club that you have to be 70 to join, they climb Gannet peak in Wyoming every year. Its the tallest in Wyoming and remote so no easy way up it. I want to be on top of it for my 70th one day.

Not meaning for this to turn into a thread jack, but I hear you. They are giving me a ball joint that they pound into the center of the bone as opposed to cementing it together like they used to.. Then allow the bone to grow around the joint. Supposed to be better and longer lasting. If there is a big scar, I can always say I got it defending the free world from the outbreak of WW3 single handed. Rehab in any injury or surgery is a vital part of recovery. I won't be doing anything that would cause me to bend at the hips more than 90 degrees for quite q while so the motorcycel is definately out for a while once the surgery is done.

I may be getting a hip in the near future. Physical therapy is doing nothing. Running or even walking for exercise is out of the question. I am ready.

These effers use carpenters tools! Ask if they are using fresh drill bits, chisels, and saw blades.
Don't worry about the hammers. But make sure the sedation is 100%. :Yo:

It was pouring yesterday, thunder/lightning, and they shut down the cable cars and lifts to and from (and ended up shutting down the site completely while we were there, supposedly is shut down today as well) so we had to hike up a Bunch of steps to get to the top (so we didn't hike the wall very much at all after that) - a day after a really miserable (for me) 12 hour flight where one of my hamstrings cramped up - my legs and right knee were especially unhappy with me... Was supposed to go to the summer palace, national museum(?), and forbidden city today but I'm pretty stuck here in the hotel room in gastric distress ( :( ) PS hillside characters mean 'loyalty to chairman mao' (or so I was told)...

I wished I could convince my wife to go see mainland China. She has been to Hong Kong before the return to China bit does not want to go to mainland. I have no idea why. Maybe it is because her parents are both escapees from the heavy handed terror in China back in those days. But wife is Canadian born so shouldn't have anything to worry about. Hell, her parents are still in the phone book under an assumed name they use when they illegally came to Canada in the early 50s. They have since declared themselves and are citizens now.

OH FUCK. Does Trump read this. Homeland Security may deny me access to the states for collaborating with illegals!

That is what the neighbors say when they see me filleting them up. Next full moon is the best time to catch giant wahoo's. Caught a 56 lb one a few years ago.
