IMG_0656.JPG IMG_0656.JPG Yes, and no. It is great that you do not have to cut. But you do have to unbolt when you want to change the oil. I still like it and it looks great.

I like mine and they look good; however, I don't really know or want to know if they work.

No matter what you use, the cases and fairings are going to touch down, before any frame slider makes contact. I am always cautious to take a good look at what will get destroyed if they do touch down and get hooked on something. They can actually cause a lot more damage than they will ever protect you from. There are better things to spend your money on.

Actually you are incorrect. I have the R&G sliders and had to lower my bike down more than once. Not a mark on the cases or fairing. For low speed drops they work, over 30mph who cares if the bikes totalled. As long as I'm ok the bikes replaceable.

The bike needs badging and tastefully and these fit the bill. Mine are for stupid footing, oil on the road or a bad placed u turn. In a high speed crash if I live and want to ride again I will look for another bike. ;-)

My R&G Sliders have been successful in two occasions now , 1st rolled of the stand (NB. If parked facing slightly downhill across a slope turn front wheel in uphill direction.) 2nd front wheel hit oil in service station. Both drops no damage to fairings.

The best way to treat Sliders is just like a bumper on your car.
It is there to stop minor damage to your vehicle, it is not there to resist a pickup truck hitting you at 40mph or equally you sliding down the road at 50 + !!!
They DO help in making a LOW SPEED drop still ridable - the Bar ends can resist the clutch / brake levers getting destroyed, the frame sliders actually protect the shift lever & rear brake - so if you do drop it you have a chance of being able to get home...

There’s a brand out of Australia called Oggy Knobs, they offer a no cut design and one of the members on this or VFRDiscussion did a report on them after he crashed. My recollection is that they did their job and he was very satisfied with them. Maybe do a search here or over at VFRDiscussion and see if you can find his report.

Why did Trex change the design of their frame sliders, is the new design better, and if so why? I can't even find the prior design for sale anymore, only the new design?

The new Trex frame sliders are nice and they will protect your fairings. I had a small low side (left) without the bags and not a scratch on the bike.

The MK1 design had a 10mm thick plate from the 2 subframe mounts to the engine mount just inside the fairing, not just fixed with the 2 rear subframe bolts

Mine was knocked over in a car park and only scuffed the slider head, I managed to get another pair of the slider heads last June, when they told me the MK1 blocks are no longer available

The plate took the force of the drop and bent slightly which has now been replaced with one I had made and plated (£45)

If it had been the MK2 version I'm pretty sure the 2 bolts would have bent and needed replacing at least

Having said that the MK 2 version must work well as they've sold so many

As I said, I low sided on the left side, my bike slid across the cement road. No scratches on paint. Only marks on frame slider pad. I have the new design. Two large bolts plus a pad between frame and slider bracket. Pretty heavy duty I think (see attached pic). Picture is taken after low side.

I installed them last year. I have not op tested them yet (Knock on wood). When you take them off to remove the fairing for oil change you may need to unload the suspension as bolt holes in the frame will shift a bit. Not too difficult to remedy but if you are not expecting it there will be an oh $h!t moment, at lest there was for me.

Nice, sounds like this will be on my list.

You mention you have the new design but in the pic you attached it looks like the old design that has VFR on the outside? Maybe its just the angle...
