Snap-On radiator hose remover. An Isle of Man sidecar racer mentioned this little tidbit. He built his hack with an early VF engine and had to constantly remove and install his carbs for jetting changes, and it was a bitch as we all know. He said it was a game changer, could install so much quicker. And I'll have to say, it is slick as snot on a doorknob. I bought one and then bought another. Install the fronts all the way and then set these in between the carb inlet and the boot off to one side. Apply some pressure while sweeping these around the corner. The inlet gets past the boot edge, slip out and press down.

    Pop. And Bob's your Uncle.

I have the same but with the faster red handles … those are THE BEST tool for mounting those pesky V4 carbs.
    Got mine at Harbor Freight…

    Thank you, Capt!

    Makes sense.

I've been using screwdrivers with success but can see where these would be a big improvement.

I'll look in my tool box tomorrow to see if I have any. If not I'll run up the the Port Orange HF on Monday to grab some.

I've been procrastinating doing the RC15 carb reinstall because of all the issues I've had on those. But I need to get it done so very timely for your posts/info!

You can see where the small bird hit the porting casting when it got too close to the open flatslide carbs and got sucked in. That's why you put some mesh over the bell mouth smitty.

I ran open flatties on my SV. You would have thought I would have learned on my first crash why I should have some mesh over the open flat slide. :(

Do go on... Was this the cause of the crash or the result of debris getting into them afterwards during the tumble?

haha wonder if Boing had anything to do with airflow design..
This little cutie had stock 22mm at birth..then I had intake manifolds made up to fit 27mm Makuni with open stacks.
No worries about a detonation between my legs. :Flame:

It all started on a sunny day at Miller Motorsports Park, which is now named something else. Sprint race for 650 twins superbike the day after our 6hr national endurance race (finished 2nd in class). I was battling for 2nd when the guy crossed my front wheel on the back straight and sent me flying off of the bike. Tore the cartilage in my right ankle and sucked in perfectly shaped (everything at Miller is top shelf!) gravel trap gravel into each carb because I was too lazy to put a mesh screen over my flatties.

This trend continued for 3 more wrecks, until I finally put some mesh over them after 4 rebuilds only to retire 3 months later. booo
The gravel never made it down into my valves, but it forced me to learn flat-slide carbs. I had the cleanest carbs around! lol

    Right?!
No dirt, oil, grease twisted clamp with the wrong nut on the wrong bolt … it’s unbelievable to see what’s on that pic .
I just bought a new set for the 1000 Hurricane I just picked up. Had to get them from England. It’s a thing of beauty.

My son’s first official ride on a street bike. We went to town and back at a snails pace. Pulled into the gas station and showed him how to fill up a tank without using a funnel. Lol
Had him take lead on the way home so I could watch and create a gap to get off of the highway to ease the stress. We have a 20’ gravel entry because Cali won’t let you just bring safe asphalt from your driveway to the actual highway.
Oh and the 400 is done. :) Safety gear is our next port of call and a new YSS in the mail to fit up to the Hawk. 4FC5A92D-D7D8-4B78-9990-DB61224BB531.jpeg
