Dumped snow again last week so wasting time looking at possible exhaust options for my 2000. Considering a couple of low-cost options (because I'd rather not spend a quarter or half the bike's value on an exhaust):

    - Dominator exhaust. Haven't been able to find any decent videos. The one I'm seeing is a full-length can so it shouldn't be obnoxiously loud. Seems like a Delkevic equivalent. Not looking for super loud so this seems plausible. This is just what I'm looking at as a brand new option. I'd happily wait for a used Staintune or Two Bros if I thought it was realistic. There's pretty much no aftermarket parts near me.

    - 1998/99 header swap. Information I've read online suggests that the catless header from an early 5th gen has a little more grunt (volume-wise, I don't care to add performance) than the later bikes. I have a lead on a bike somewhat near me that'll potentially be parted out, though I can't determine whether I'll need to A: reflash my ECU or B: take the ECU from the early bike.

If neither of those achieve what I want, I'm happy leaving it stock. Just exploring cheap options for my own entertainment.

Love the Delkevics I have on multiple bikes. Top notch quality. Cheap pricing. Great service.

Was going to get a Delkevic for my old VTEC but ended up just selling instead. I like the idea of one for this but I've only seen the shorty can and a high sitting one. I have bags so I'll need the stock positioning. I'll do some reading now into whether that exists or not but assuming you're on here at the moment, do you now if that's such a thing?

    Edit: Found one.

Admittedly, I'm also looking at the Dominator over the Delkevic because the shipping cost is about a third as costly compared to the Delkevic. I know that sounds cheap but that's over $100 right there before factoring anything else in. All-in, I could buy 2 Dominators for the price of one Delkevic.

I suggest not asking the Internet to vote. Just call them or write to them. They make a TON of cans and mounts. And more for your ears:

That was just me thinking aloud. If I can find a Delk with reasonable shipping, I'll go with that. From what I'm seeing, the Dominator can is nearly half the cost all-in. Assuming it's not total garbage and those are the prices, I may experiment with that in the meantime as another cost-friendly option.

Mine is not high, just regular on both 5th gens (other has a Staintune). I don't like the look or function of the high ones.

Merely a thought: I had pondered exhaust for my own 5th Gen for quite some time. After acquiring a “parts,” bike with a Micron exhaust (not pretty. Scratched and dented), I guessed I might be able to install my personal Unicorn silencer…a Supertrapp universal model. Not done yet, still in the works. Supertrapp doesn’t list anything for us 5th Gen’rs. Delkevic opines their mid pipe doesn’t work with other silencers. Will let you know if the Micron mid pipe works with S/T.

I loved all of my Supertrapps. Can't wait for the audio file!

Just a note of interest.....8th gen exhaust cans fit on 5th gens.....
Not personally verified, but have seen several examples on both VFRD and VFRW.

Saw someone confirm that the new Staintune works. A used 5th gen one just popped up near me that I would've been all over if it wasn't a high mount. I need to mount my bags still lol

I wish I could find a high-mount Staintune for my 2001. I have a low-mount Yoshimura that sounds good, but perhaps a little quiet for my taste.

More than I’d ever think to spend on a used unit ($1000 CAD) but he’s probably willing to ship.

I would love to have replaced my OEM on my 6th gen for a set of Staintunes. A friend had them and I loved the sound without it being obnoxious. But alas, I think Staintunes has closed up shop a few years ago. I haven't looked for any used as I am generally not a fan of used stuff. My buddy hit a deer several years ago and wrote off his bike. The piped were screwed too.

I had a Staintune high mount can on my Gen 4 VFR750 and I loved the sound. I had many people tell me it was the best sounding bike they'd heard.

I sold that bike, but I'm in the works to pick up a '99 VFR800 this weekend, and it has the Delkevic tri-oval carbon can, so I'm hoping it'll sound as good as bmart's audio clips.
